# GDL rules that show up on the New Jersey MVC test

Plate decals, the 11:01 p.m. curfew, passenger limits, and the under-21 wireless ban are not trivia. They are why a national question bank is not enough for New Jersey.

Most “US DMV” apps recycle the same right-of-way questions in every state. New Jersey’s handbook is different, and the knowledge test follows it.

**GDL plate decals.** Permit and probationary drivers under 21 must display red reflectorized decals on the front and rear license plates. The test is not asking whether you like the look; it is asking whether you know they are required.

**Night curfew.** GDL drivers under 21 are not supposed to drive between **11:01 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.**, with narrow work and religious exceptions that need documentation. A generic quiz that never mentions 11:01 is not a New Jersey quiz.

**Passengers.** During the permit and probationary stages, passenger limits apply (typically no more than one passenger, with family/dependent exceptions). Read the current GDL brochure — the exam follows the manual, not a forum post from 2014.

**Wireless devices under 21.** Adult New Jersey drivers already may not hold a phone. GDL drivers under 21 go further: **no wireless device at all while driving**, handheld or hands-free. If you trained on a 50-state bundle, this is usually the gap.

**Supervised practice and certification.** The current first-license guide requires under-21 applicants to complete **50 hours of supervised driving, including 10 during darkness**, and provide BA-CSD certification for licensing when applicable. **夜间宵禁。** GDL 未满 21 岁驾驶人原则上不得在 **晚上 11:01 至凌晨 5:00** 开车，工作或宗教例外很窄且需要证明。一套从不提 11:01 的题，就不是新泽西题。

**乘客。** 许可和实习阶段有乘客人数限制（通常不超过一名乘客，家属/受抚养人有例外）。请读现行 GDL 说明——考试跟手册，不跟 2014 年的论坛帖。

**未满 21 岁无线设备。** 新泽西成年驾驶人已经不得手持手机。GDL 未满 21 岁更严：**开车时不得使用任何无线设备**，手持和免提都不行。如果只刷过 50 州合集，缺口通常在这里。
